Seems no one is Safe from IT outages including our National Lottery
Last nights Mid week Lotto draw has been postponed due to network connectivity problems that saw the country’s 3,500 Lotto machines unable to process Lotto slips.
This is the 1st time in the history of our National Lottery such an incident has happened and left many wondering was it due to their lack of investment of IT services or was it something far more sinister as some comments on news feeds throughout Ireland are suggesting, what ever the cause things are back up and running today.
A technical issue affecting the 3G telecommunications infrastructure provided by Telefónica affected business customers across Ireland and Europe – including more than 3,500 National Lottery agents.
In a statement, the National Lottery said it “can confirm that there were technical problems this morning following a service outage related to the 3G telecommunications infrastructure provided by Telefónica.
“This incident affected business customers across Ireland and Europe including over 3,500 National Lottery agents.
“We are continuing work to re-establish the connection between the agent terminals and the network.”
The draw – with a €10m jackpot at stake – will now take place tomorrow night instead. Tickets already purchased for the midweek draw remain valid for tomorrow’s draw.
And if you were one of the many who could not purchase a ticket yesterday, you can today and it is valid for the postponed draw.
